How I got started

How I got started

It started in 2013 with Mad Nice Out, a tee-shirt company created by myself and my two siblings, Nubbi and Tony. I drew up a concept design for the penny farthing logo, which my brother Tony cleaned up in photoshop and made look real sharp. I thought he was a freakin magician how clean it came out. I had zero photoshop or digital art skills whatsoever so I was very impressed and so he was our graphic designer and off to the print shop the design went. It was fairly well received at the time but a clash of sibling ideas eventually led to a falling out of the Mad Nice Out brand.

A few years later I moved to Denver Colorado and in 2016 I purchased a screen printing kit and gave the tee-shirt thing another whack. It failed. I tried exposing the screens with the sun which turns out is a very whacky way of doing it. It works but it wasn't really for me. I tried hand painting a screen but only got one print out of it on an old work sweatshirt. It wasn't the most exciting so I abandoned the idea and pretty much gave up screen printing.

In 2023, I was the artist of the month for April at Barrier Brewing Co. It was really just a collection of random paintings I had from over the years. Prior to the show I was working on random little projects getting ready for the show. I stumbled upon another screen printing kit in my parents' basement and figured what the hell, let's give this another shot and this is how it went....

The first transparency print I printed with my mom's printer:

My first screen. It wasn't perfect but it brought back that excitement for me:

My first tees :)

I ended up making about 20 prints from some old army tees my dad gave me and then whatever other random tee shirts I could find at the thrift store. I sold only one painting that night at the show but every tee that I brought with me sold. All random army tees and mismatching colors, sold.

Since March of '23 I've done a few other prints for some people and some personal things for myself.

This was probably my best print I made for the last Dead and Co. run, in Summer of 2023, which I still have for sale.

Another design I had posted on my Etsy page:
